Tainted by the Blight, never to die. We call these creatures the Blighted.

The Blighted, also known as the Cursed Ones, are humans transformed upon contact with the Blight.

Overview

My grasp on this body is fading, and yet... my mind is still clear.

Described as a "rot that spreads throughout"[1] or "the Ancient's revenge",[2] the Blighted is one who has their mind, body and soul consumed by the Blight. They are granted regenerative powers and immortality, but in return, their mind becomes overtaken by the wrath of the Blight. Those unlucky enough to keep their minds are doomed to suffer eternally, as they become a prisoner of their bodies, only able to be saved by the White Priestess.[3]

In certain circumstances, the rot of the Blight is able to fuse multiple beings together using its regenerative capabilities into one larger creature.[4] Some examples are Castle Town Maiden, Western Merchant, Cliffside Hamlet Elder and most notably, Bale.

Not all Blighted were created by the Rain...

The Verboten Mages, curious with the discovery, experimented in creating Blighted human-animal hybrids, now realizing there was endless potential. The winged creatures and centaurs found in the Twin Spires were created using this discovery, as they were given elixirs to drink which transformed them, as seen in the case of Fallen Sentinel.
