Deathless Elixir is an experimental potion created by Faden, the leader of the King's Mage Brigade. It is intended purpose, according to its creator, was to counteract the effects of the Blight on an intact, uninfected organism.

History

The idea for the elixir arose somewhat accidentally during other research into the Blight's effects and Faden's personal ambitions. After receiving the King's permission to explore the depths of the Verboten Domain, Faden founded the King's Mage Brigade, which included his assistant Miriel[1]. During the expedition, a turning point occurred when Miriel, for unknown reasons, became infected with the Blight. Faden's deep affection for her and the tragic situation dramatically shifted his priorities. He began conducting intensive research in a desperate attempt to find a cure for his beloved.

Some time later, Fretia, rapidly losing her remaining strength, was brought to the laboratory in the Verboten Domain, where Faden continued his observations and experiments. The unique nature of the Blight-infected tissue on the Priestess's body led him to study these samples more closely. He discovered that contact with the infected Priestess did not transmit the disease, as her body completely controlled the metastases, preventing them from spreading or affecting her mind. This revelation gave Faden hope that a medicine could be developed to halt the growth of the Blight and even reverse it. The chance to save people — and Miriel first and foremost — became the main driving force behind a long series of subsequent experiments[2].

The work on the cure yielded mixed results. Unfortunately, the experiments did not lead to the restoration of consciousness in already infected individuals. However, Faden succeeded in creating new Blighted who retained their own consciousness and were capable of coherent speech. He saw this as the key to immortality and later named his experimental potion the Deathless Elixir. This prototype was eventually presented to the King of Land's End[3].

In order to strengthen the kingdom's forces in the battle against the Blighted, the order was given to administer the Deathless Elixir to the kingdom's knights.

Consequences

Despite initially granting enhanced resistance and combat effectiveness against the Blighted, the elixir soon began to produce the opposite effect. Some knights described a gradual loss of control over their own bodies, even while their minds remained clear[4][5]. As more time passed after ingestion, the Immortal Knights increasingly began to resemble the Blighted. The process differed from regular Blight infection, but the outcome was the same: sooner or later, all the Immortal Knights lost their sanity.

The loss of hope for saving Miriel, the cessation of work on the elixir, and the reckless mass application of an untested prototype became Faden's greatest mistake — one that largely determined the tragic fate of the Kingdom of End.

The exact reasons for the complete failure of the Deathless Elixir remain unknown. However, the most likely theory is connected to Faden's misconception regarding the true nature of the Blight's interaction with Priestesses. Although the Blight can be altered and fully controlled within a Priestess's body, it returns to its original dangerous state once it leaves the Priestess and enters a non-immune host. The failure to restore consciousness to already infected individuals, as well as Faden's creation of entirely new sentient Blighted beings, only further highlight the dangerous unpredictability of the Deathless Elixir.

I've tried countless experiments to bring her back to me, but it has all been to no avail… Thanks to my constant work with the Blight the Immortal Knights come to being. Now that I've defied the King, surely, I will be driven from my lab.[src]
